FIT FOR PRINT For Words That Work, Recognition You Deserve
About

Peggy Menaker is the founder of Fit For Print LLC,
a multi-faceted consulting firm that offers copy-editing services and advises entrepreneurs, small business owners, and community leaders with limited budgets how to publicize their services, products and programs.
Leveraging more than 18 years of professional experience as a newspaper copy editor and writer, Peggy typically works with those who need help polishing their written words and/or want assistance with local publicity.
Peggy is adept at improving the quality of what someone else has written while retaining an author's "voice" and intent.
When it comes to publicity, she demonstrates to clients the importance of recognizing what is, and is not newsworthy, and helps them develop creative angles to garner the recognition that they and their businesses deserve. Peggy shows clients that unpaid editorial media coverage is available to them when they have something of value to report, and that such coverage is different from, and as vital as, paid advertising and a strong on line presence.
With a handle on the building blocks of a solid press release and from an experienced editor’s perspective, Peggy has the inside scoop on what newspapers want, when they need it, and how they expect information to be sent to them.
Her advice to clients is based on first-hand knowledge gained from working in the newsroom. In addition to her writing, editing, story selection, and page layout duties, Peggy interacted daily with local residents, business people, and public relations professionals, all of whom were vying for unpaid editorial coverage in the paper.
The newspaper industry has changed dramatically, but the need for local print media remains. Peggy gives her clients the skills to forge good, working relationships with local editors and avoid common blunders often made by those who approach the press with requests for coverage. Having those skills has become more important than ever before for business owners, as editors, who receive an unending stream of requests for coverage, continue to face the realities of smaller papers and staff cuts. Newsworthy information and photos that are formatted and submitted properly have a better than average chance of being printed.
Peggy, who loves to edit Web site, editorial, marketing, and advertising copy and consult with those seeking local publicity, also offers workshops on various editing and publicity topics.
She is proud that her clients, as well as their words, are truly Fit For Print.
A graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Peggy was on the editorial staff for six years at Daily News Record, a Fairchild Publication in New York City. She left that position to raise her children, but maintained her writing, editing, and creative skills through deep involvement in her community and the activities of volunteer organizations.
In 1996, Peggy joined the staff of The Progress, a Recorder Community Newspaper covering six Essex County New Jersey communities. While there, she held the positions of Arts & Entertainment Editor, Sports Editor, and Lifestyles Editor. During her tenure at the paper, the seeds of an idea for a freelance copy editing and local publicity consulting business began to grow. Confident that her plan would succeed, Peggy resigned from The Progress in March 2008 to develop Fit For Print. She launched her business in October 2008.
Peggy is the founding chairwoman of the NCJW Center for Women, a non-sectarian community service of the National Council of Jewish Women, Essex County New Jersey Section, and founding editor of that organization's newsletter, Viewpoints. A talented cook and baker, she was, in addition to her newspaper work, a cooking teacher for many years for Kings Cookingstudios in New Jersey and Sur La Table in Manhasset, NY. She served on the board of the New York Association of Culinary Professionals and redesigned, and was editor of, that organization's newsletter, Food for Thought.
Peggy is a member of the New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners/Essex, The Association for Women in Communications/Northern New Jersey Professional, and Ladies Who Launch/Central and Northeast New Jersey.
